Shimano Tiagra has long been a stalwart of the Shimano line. Functional, dependable, and incredibly durable, it was a groupset that cared more about getting the job done that about looks and having the latest tech. Well...that\'s all gone and changed. At least the looks and latest tech parts. Tiagra stays at 10-speed, but Shimano has completely redesigned the 4700 Tiagra groupset to give you the looks and technology found in the company\'s 11-speed groupsets, while maintaining the same attention to value, intuitive functionality, dependability and durability.

And there are few places you\'re more likely to notice that than in the redesigned shift levers. The all-new lever borrows it\'s design and ergonomics directly from Shimano\'s top-tier Dura-Ace and Ultegra groupsets. Let\'s start with the obvious here: Tiagra finally gets under-the-tape shift cable routing. While this will make your bike look a whole lot cooler, it actually also will help it shift a lot better too--which wasn\'t always the case. But Shimano\'s new lighter shift action that was pioneered in the Dura-Ace 9000 groupset has trickled down to 4700, and with it the improvements in cable routing. Another side benefit of that new routing is that braking feels easier and more natural thanks to a redesigned brake pull pivot--which makes it easier to brake from the hoods, and allows for true two-finger (or even one-finger with discs) braking. The shape of the lever has a whole has also been redesigned to be smaller and more svelt, with an easy natural shape that won\'t strain your wrists and fits effortlessly in the hand. Combined with a cool smoky-chrome finish, this is one of the best value-oriented upgrades you can make to your existing road bike, and also is great for cyclocross, touring, winter bikes, and just about anything else.
