If you have ever used a traditional aluminum oxide grinding wheel, then you know that it takes a bit of consistent maintenance to keep the wheel flat and true. We typically would use a wheel dresser to do this. Using a CBN wheel eliminates this chore by staying flat and true for its entire life span. CBN wheels simply just don’t wear and provide years of sharpening service! No more dressing or shaping of your wheels. Just turn the grinder on and get to sharpening! The Savannah 8" CBN Grinding Wheel is machined from solid steel and is bonded with Cubic Boron Nitride (CBN). Use the CBN wheels for most any sharpening projects, including; turning tools, chisels, plane irons and more. With the Savannah 8" CBN Grinding Wheels you will achieve a super fine, sharp edge with polished bevels on either hardened tool steel or carbide. Each wheel is approximately 8” in diameter with a standard 5/8” bore opening which fits most standard size arbors. The Savannah 8” CBN Grinding Wheel is designed to be use with 8” grinders only. The flat sharpening surface is approximately 1 ½” wide. This provides you with plenty of sharpening surface for most any size tool. Some grinders will create a little vibration in the wheel due to seating problems against the the shaft shoulder near the motor housing and sometimes this happens because of unequal pressure from the shaft nut. This vibration will interfere with the accuracy of sharpening. We have found If you experience this problem the included self-aligning Spherical Washers will do the trick of eliminating any vibration at all for a much smoother sharpening experience. Our CBN wheels are made using a heavy industrial electroplate method to embed Cubic Boron Nitride particles into a precision machined steel blank. Each wheel weighs about 6 pounds. We recommend using a slow speed grinder (1750 to 2000 rpm) with sufficient amperage to handle the extra weight. These wheels are designed to be used to sharpen hardened Steel or Carbide metal tools. Using the CBN wheel to sharpen non-heat treated steel, aluminum or other soft metals will damage the CBN Grinding Wheel
