Cubic Boron Nitride (CBN) Sharpening/grinding wheels do not need to be balanced, trued, shaped, and they don’t wear. This state-of-the-art wheel is ideal for sharpening or shaping High Speed Steal. Cubic Boron Nitride (CBN) is a man-made crystalline material which is one of the hardest materials in the world, just below diamond on the hardness scale. CBN is electroplated onto an aluminum wheel which has been balanced with precision. The wheel diameter does not change over time, maintaining the same grind on your tools for years. Our CBN wheels come in 80 and 180 grit, achieving a super fine sharp edge with a polished bevel. They are 1.5 inches wide with a 5/8” bore. These wheels can make most any grinder preform at a much higher level, changing the way you sharpen forever. Caution: CBN Grinding Wheels are designed to be used to sharpen hardened steel or carbide. *Sharpening non-heat-treated steel, aluminum or other soft metals will damage the CBN Grinding Wheel. * -Helpful Tips- ~If there is run out, check that the wheel, washer, and nut are correctly aligned and perpendicular You may remove the guards with these wheels, which increases light and reduces shadow when sharpening. You should always use eye protection! ~Avoid sharpening high carbon steel as this loads the wheel up and fill in the pores. Sharpening carbide is not suggested either. ~Dry grinding is fine for woodturning tools. In a heavy use industrial situation, a coolant is necessary to cool the workpiece. Installation Tips: 1) Remove guards on bench type grinder. 2) Slip wheel onto bare shaft of grinder. These may not slip on easily. They are made with very careful tolerances. Do NOT force them! A) Wipe the shaft off and try the wheel again. B ) Repeat until the wheel slips on.
