15 count package of Extra Large Bur Oak Acorns from North Texas with caps on Scientific name: Quercus macrocarpa This long lived mighty oak makes a fabulous ornamental or shade tree and is one of the most durable and tolerant of the North American White Oaks. Offering dense shade and drought tolerance, the Bur Oak also adapts well to heat stress and city air pollutants. The hearty large fringed acorns are often referred to as Mossycup or Overcup. The tree's acorns are the perfect way to attract wildlife to your property. Although you can purchase young bur oaks from a nursery, the tree's lifeline is its long tap root that can descend 5 feet in its first year. Since an oak loses about 95 percent of its roots during transplant, bur oaks are better grown from acorns at home. This North America native grows in hardiness zones 3-9. Check with your local area's nursery for planting recommendations. White Oak Family Common names: Mossycup Oak, Overcup Oak, Scrub Oak, Quercus Macrocarpa, sometimes spelled "Burr" Oak
