Color:Gold ✔ Sotto Meditation Bell Sotto Meditation Bell is a Buddhist ‘orin’ (bell) which has been crafted to create an object of visual beauty and exquisite tone. Traditionally used in Buddhist prayer, today the ‘orin’ is appreciated as a means to clear the mind of intruding thoughts, and prepare it for meditation. The clear tone of the Sotto Meditation Bell is a call to mindfulness and spiritual awareness. A newly-forged Sotto Meditation Bell does not yet have a mature ring, and must be ‘cured’ for a period of six months from the day of its completion. After this time, the Sotto Meditation Bell will start to issue a very clear, bright tone, one that will gradually mature and improve as the years pass, bringing joy and mindfulness to all who hear its lovely sound. ✔ Takaoka, Japan: Land of Buddhist Mentalworks Over four centuries ago, Lord Maeda of the Kaga clan summoned seven masters of metalcraft to Takaoka, on the Japan Sea, where they established foundries, and soon distinguished the region as a leading producer of cast iron pots and metal products. The first of the foundries was built in a place called Kanayamachi, a name which means ‘town of the metalsmiths.’ By the middle of the Edo period (1603 – 1868), Takaoka had earned great fame for its copper and bronze Buddhist accoutrements. Today, statues and temple bells cast in Takaoka can be seen and heard in temples throughout Japan.
