Vintage 12" Speaker, RL-71, 030618, Tests Well for Continuity

For sale is a vintage 12" speaker, model RL-17, left behind in the "collection" of my late father.   He was a radio and TV electronics serviceman for much of his life, and was an active and avid HAM radio operator for over 70 years!    And, he saved just about everything he ever owned.   At one time, he would set up speaker systems for various occasions, and wound up with a collection of speaker boxes.   This speaker was in a large wooden box with a volume control on the side.   The box was no longer in nice condition, so we removed the speaker and decided to find a new home for it.   I hope that this is a great vintage speaker that you would enjoy using for its awesome vintage sound.

The speaker shows signs of age, but tests well for continuity.   AI tells me that this is an RCA speaker, used in consoles, but I can't verify.  There is a small tear in the cone, but the  piece is there for repair (see photo).   There are glue spots on the outer edge of the cone, where someone had glued a rough-cut cardboard ring, which had deteriorated.   I removed most of it, but a few glue with cardboard spots were left.   I stopped trying to remove them to avoid the risk of damaging the cone.   So you will need to replace that ring.

I don't know much about my dad's electronics, so I haven't tested the speaker beyond the "beep" which shows continuity.   (A friend helped me set up this "elaborate" testing system.)   I will leave it your expertise to work with this speaker!   I hope it is one that you would love to use in YOUR vintage restoration!!
