Greetings vintage audio lovers !
For your consideration is a pair of vacuum tube powered mono block amplifiers from a Robertโs 990 reel to reel tape deck.
Robert Metzner founded Robertโs Electronics and began his relationship with AKAI in 1957 .
The 990 was made in Japan by AKAI to Robert Metzners specs and shipped to Robertโs for sale in North America only.
AKAI marketed and sold virtually the same deck everywhere else know as the AKAI M8.
I tried to nail down the year, closest I could come was somewhere between 1961 and 1965.
These amp are being sold AS IS for a project or restoration.
A few years back these were very popular my the do it yourself audio crowd for mono-block builds.
I have seen a few that were upgraded and fitted with wood cabinets.
Unfortunately Iโll never get around to getting that done,so Iโm passing them along.
I did power them up before removing them from the deck.
No testing was done past that.
The complete manual for the Robertโs 990 is readily available online, including the schematics for these amps !
Please look closely at the attached images !
They help provide a good idea as to the cosmetic condition of these items.
I did clean them up a bit,the left amp more so than the right.
I only pulled and cleaned and re installed the tubes from the left amplifier.
This listing includes all the tubes for both amplifiers. 9 in all.
NOTE : I will include the 4 vent panels from the deck as pictured.
If you decide to build cabinets for them they would be perfect in the top and bottom of each cabinet for ventilation.
