Description:
The Opera Consonance T-1 is a tube line preamplifier designed and built in Beijing by Opera Audio, a Chinese manufacturer that has earned quiet respect among tube enthusiasts worldwide. Each channel runs two 12AU7 tubes, with a 5Y3 tube rectifier featuring a deliberately slow rise time, zero negative feedback, MIT coupling capacitors, custom-made resistors, and pure copper point-to-point wiring throughout. Four pairs of single-ended RCA inputs and one pair of RCA outputs are provided on the rear, along with an IEC receptacle for aftermarket power cords. The real cherry wood front panel with exposed tubes and transformers gives it a distinctly retro-chic aesthetic. Dimensions are 17”W x 9.5”D x 5”H.
SoundStage praised its midrange qualities as akin to analog playback — a compelling increase in dynamic contrast between instruments and a palpable sense of depth and air around individual performers in the soundstage. For classical and jazz in particular, the T-1’s musical character was described as seductive and captivating. A bare-bones but beautifully voiced tube preamplifier from one of the most underrated names in the international tube audio market.
