The Marantz 2285B is a solid-state AM/FM stereo receiver manufactured from 1977 to 1980, sitting at the very top of Marantz’s celebrated 22xx series and widely regarded by collectors as the finest-sounding receiver in the entire line. It delivers 94 watts per channel into 8 ohms with a frequency response of 10Hz to 40kHz and 0.1% total harmonic distortion, backed by a damping factor of 40 that allows it to control a woofer with real precision. The FM tuner section uses a MOSFET front end for low noise, ceramic IF filters for rock-solid selectivity, and a phase-locked loop multiplex decoder delivering stereo separation up to 40dB — exceptional performance for the era. The amplifier section permits connection of two stereo pairs of loudspeakers, a turntable, two tape recorders, stereo headphones, and an auxiliary source, with a variable turnover tone control and front-panel dubbing jacks. Weight is 37.5 lbs.

Cosmetic details:

• In fair cosmetic condition, has some scratches/marks, see pictures for details.
• The unit has been cleaned to minimize visible blemishes and remove accumulated dust although this one was very dirty when we received it so it could still use a deeper cleaning if desired.

Key details:

• Below are the notes given over to us by the previous owner although we have not tested the unit ourselves apart from powering on. It is being sold as-is for parts/repair.

1. Missing the Power Amp PCB and output transistor heat sink
2.  Selector switch is defective and only functions in the Aux position. It appears the shaft for this selector is broken somewhere before it connects to the selector wafts.
3. Preamp output was successfully tested by connecting to an external power amplifier — confirmed working.
4. Great candidate for a parts donor, restoration project, or repair if you have access to Marantz service parts.

• From our inspection, it appears as though this unit was possibly dropped at some point due to the dents in the chassis pictured above. Some screws were already missing when we received it. 
• The only thing done to this unit is new LED lamps, everything else was already present upon our receipt.
