Welcome to Antiques & Moore!
This listing is for a fabulous antique Bohemian Art Glass desk set consisting of a long pen tray and matching inkwell in the RARE Lithyalin glass created by Friedrich Egermann in the early 19th Century (1820-30's).
This gorgeous glass has the appearance of agate stone and the richness of the color is remarkable. The outside body of both pieces have a multi-panel cut design with applied decorative bronze mounts with whimsical ladybugs randomly placed on the top of both the inkwell and pen tray.
Inkwell measures 3 3/4" high with a multi-sided base measuring 3 3/8" (from flat side to flat side). Weighs just over 1 pound.
Pen rest/tray measures 1 1/4" high (to side of tray), 10 1/2" long (handle to handle) and 3 1/8" wide. Weighs just under 1 pound.
This wonderful desk set is in excellent Estate condition with no noted flaws to the glass or the bronze mounts. The bronze has nice, original patina. The hinge on the lid of the inkwell is tight and the lid opens and closes correctly.
This rare set is exceptional and would be a perfect accessory on any executive desk or would fit in the most discerning homes.
Friedrich Egerman (1777-1864) is considered one of the most famous names in Bohemian glass history. His entire life was dedicated to creating and experimenting with colored glassware and he is credited with producing one of the most outstanding types of colored glassware ever produced - Lithyalin. This rare glass is definitely hard to find and is found in the most sophisticated Art Glass collections and museums as well. It is a perfect example of glassware from the Biedermeier Period.
