A Grand Masterpiece in vintage Theatrical finds. Next to the Holy Grail.
An era where it started life in 1935 and continues to this day!
Here it is in all its glory. A Western Electric 92A Tube Amplifier as unearthed and as found.
Let's start with the basics of this magnificent tube amplifier from 1935 era.
It is crucial and of utmost importance all transformers must be present and accounted for.
Checked.
Missing the vacuum tubes are secondary as these can be sourced over time.
The transformers in the amplifier are as follows and accounted for according to the schematic.
Power Trans 352-C
Output Trans 173-A
RET 220B
RET 221A
Input Trans 285B (rewound)
Input Trans 285A (underneath chassis)
Close examination of the transformers were inspected thoroughly.
All found to be good and proper and original with the exception of the Input 285B Trans and the 285A.
It is deemed this Input Trans 285B is a rewound transformer.
As evidenced by the thicker and newer old cloth wiring used coming out of the transformer itself.
Now the little Input Trans 285A (underneath chassis) is original and unattached and not hooked up.
You can clearly see the wires coming out of this Input Trans 285A and unattached.
It is clearly a simple means to trace the wiring according to the schematic and solder them accordingly.
I will leave this task to the master technicians out there.
The joy of soldering this is surely an immense pleasure so I'll leave it at that.
Everything else looks good underneath the chassis. Please see all pictures above.
Tubes layout are 3 x 262A, 2 x 300A and 1 x 274A. No tubes supplied.
It is important to know one's knowledge of this vintage tube amplifier.
It is by no means a plug and play tube amplifier.
Care must be taken and any out of specifications capacitors and resistors must be replaced.
With proper and painstaking care to replace faulty electronics this would be a gorgeous sounding tube
amplifier with correct tubes.
Undeniably one of Western Electric's sounding amplifier at its best.
