Vintage Cast Iron Crucifix Handle Old Rusty Coffin Religious Door Knocker

A substantial cast iron crucifix handle, likely originating from a coffin. This piece features the figure of Christ and the 'INRI' inscription across the top of the cross. Its robust construction includes a heavy U-shaped handle, designed for a strong grip. The detailing of the figure is typical of early 20th-century raw casting.

Condition: The handle presents with significant surface rust and pitting across all surfaces. This deep corrosion is consistent with long-term exposure to damp conditions, indicating its historical context and original function. Despite the heavy rust, the structural integrity of the cast iron remains solid, and the handle itself moves freely within its mounts. The rear shows remnants of a lighter, possibly painted, surface now largely obscured by rust and some flaking material. The marks of age are pronounced features of this piece's character.
