System has been set up for retro gaming with Windows 98se and Windows XP. Dual boot- when you power up it presents you with a menu to choose which OS you want to use- if you choose nothing Win 98 starts after 5 seconds.
Windows 98se is freshly set up and has hundreds of security patches, third party patches, updates, and extras installed. Keep in mind Win 98 is not the most stable OS and may require maintenance and configuration and possibly even a complete reinstallation at some point. System currently works great and starts up quickly- see video. Since this was set up to be a retro gaming machine tested with a bunch of vintage games- almost all the ones I tested worked well with good audio and video. See the end of this listing for a partial list of games that worked with no or very few issues. Also installed are Winamp, Netscape Navigator, IrfanView, early version of Office w/Word/Excel, etc, WinRAR, etc. etc. Lots of shareware, demos, abandonware, full version stuff. Most will work fine, some may need configuring, some may have issues or may not work.
The computer has 1GB RAM installed on two 512MB sticks. Usually Windows 98 won't boot if you have more than 512MB RAM installed (without a workaround program installed) or if it does boot will have issues- for some reason this setup runs fine with 1GB. If you start experiencing issues in 98 you can remove one stick of RAM.
Windows XP has been installed using the Windows XP Pro Integral 32bit 2024 discs (included). Includes hundreds of security patches, updates, and third party programs. Includes MyPal browser based on backported Firefox and allows you to browse many modern websites. Also includes image mounting software and CD burning program. Also tried a bunch of classic games in XP and most tired run fine. XP is a nice option to have if your favorite vintage game won't run in Windows 98...

Minor issues: 1) The display is working well with good sharp color but there is a small dim spot shown in the last listing photo - it's around the Future Cop icon. Usually it's not really noticeable and visibility depends on the background. 2) As seen in the ebay video the CD ROM started having issues so it was replaced with a DVD/CDRW drive which works reliably. Had to epoxy the old CD's bezel onto the new DVD. It, ejects correctly but sometimes needs to be pulled out a little bit after ejecting because bezel is tight 3) The SFF tower can either be used in vertical or horizontal position with the monitor on top to save space. Apparently they made a small stand for this to be used when in vertical position but I've only seen photos of them. It will stay upright vertically without a stand but it would be more stable (and probably look cooler) if you had one.
This computer lot weighs about 40 pounds carefully packed and the box will be oversize- so shipping will be expensive especially if you are far from the East Coast/New Jersey. It has been packed very carefully in a heavy duty box with recycled bubble wrap and sheets of scrap styrofoam,. Important note: this set has been thoroughly tested and is described honestly - but since it's about 24 years old it's being sold AS-IS and as a vintage collectible.
