Analogue Addicts UK - Transformer Colour Box - Vintage Partridge Transformers -

Having sold a few units with vintage Sowter high level transformers i am looking at doing a couple using some very high quality 1950s British Partridge transformers as shown in the photo.  They are a very sought after part for high-end audio systems and offer a very warm and creamy tone while giving you around 8db of clean "passive" gain.  So an input level of say -8db would give you approx 0db at the output before any attenuation.  At these levels you maintain a clean signal over from around 50hz to 20k hz.

An input level of 0db would give you a +8db output before any attenuation which is where the 6 way attenuation comes in to back off the hot levels to your mixer/interface.    Once you then start to increase the source levels you get into the area of Transformer core saturation and starts to get dirty towards the lower frequencies.   Stunning sounding from clean and smooth to saturated when really pushed

The secondary should be run into 10k or higher. Line input or could also run the Hi z inputs as required

The idea here is to "change" and colour
signals. Each unit we build will have unique specs and workings so a
great way of getting unique changes to recordings.  These are designed to handle quite high levels before maxing out so can sound very clean too
