Antique set of eight matching Benedict & Burnham Extra gilt brass buttons dating to the mid-19th century, approximately 1840. These are a rare and hard to find set, in excellent vibrant condition. See pictures for details and dimensions.

These beautiful buttons feature an intricate hand-engraved floral and scrollwork design with exceptional detail and craftsmanship. Each button retains its original gilt finish with attractive age-related patina consistent with authentic antique examples.

The reverse is marked “Benedict & Burnham Extra,” a well-known Waterbury, Connecticut manufacturer that played a significant role in the early American brass and button industry.

Very good antique condition with expected age-related wear and patina. Strong detail remains throughout the engraved design and original gilt finish is still present. Shanks remain intact.

Benedict & Burnham was one of the foundational brass manufacturers in Waterbury, Connecticut—the city that eventually became known as the “Brass City.” The company grew out of Aaron Benedict’s button-making operations, which began in the early 1800s. During the 1830s and 1840s, Benedict & Burnham produced high-quality gilt brass buttons, military hardware, and other brass goods. The company later expanded into a major brass manufacturing concern and ultimately became part of the industrial enterprises that evolved into the Waterbury Button Company and the American Brass Company.
