Up for sale is a 2012 Fender MIJ Japan Kurt Cobain Mustang Left-Handed in Fiesta Red, complete with a non-original hard-shell case.

This is a very cool and increasingly hard-to-find Fender Japan Kurt Cobain Mustang, and left-handed versions are especially rare. Built to capture the look and feel of the modified Mustangs Kurt used during the In Utero era, this model blends classic offset Mustang styling with more aggressive, player-focused specs. The Fiesta Red finish, tortoiseshell pickguard, and unique pickup layout make it one of the most distinctive modern Fender signature models, and left-handed examples almost never turn up.

Condition

This guitar is in excellent condition and I would rate it a solid 9/10. It shows only light surface scratches and a few small dings from normal use. Please review all photos carefully for the most accurate representation of condition.

Everything on the guitar appears to be original with the exception of the tremolo bar. The bar is a right-handed tremolo arm that has been bent for left-handed use, and it works quite well.

There are no cracks, breaks, or repairs. The neck is straight, the frets are in excellent condition with no wear, and the guitar plays cleanly up and down the neck with smooth, buzz-free action. It has also been recently professionally set up and is ready to go.

The non-original hard-shell case is included.

Electronics & Features

One of the biggest draws of this model is how closely it reflects the modified Mustangs Kurt Cobain actually used. The direct-mounted Seymour Duncan JB in the bridge gives the guitar much more output and punch than a standard Mustang, while the Mustang single-coil in the neck keeps some of that classic offset character intact.

The control layout is also a big part of the appeal. With on/off and phase switching for each pickup, it offers more tonal flexibility than many players expect, and it keeps the guitar visually and functionally tied to Kurt’s well-known stage instruments. Being a left-handed MIJ example makes this one especially uncommon and collectible.

Tone & Feel

This guitar has a great balance of short-scale Mustang feel and more aggressive, rock-ready tone. The bridge JB delivers strong output, bite, and power, while the neck pickup adds warmth and clarity for cleaner tones and more textured sounds.

The 24" scale makes the guitar feel easy and slinky in the hands, and the C-shaped neck is comfortable and fast without feeling too thin. At 7 lbs 8 oz, it is nicely balanced and very comfortable to play.
