4 String Short Scale 1/2 3/4 size Cigar Box Canjo Tin Can Micro Mini Bass Guitar

the overall length of the Bass is 36 inches. the tin is a chunky 9.75 inches long, 8.75 inches wide and 4 inches deep. the overall size of the tin to my ear adds a lot of sustain and resonance to the tone of the bass especially when played acoustically, it is very deep thumping. the scale length of the Bass is 25.5 inches. this is a very short scale, the same scale as most Strat and Tele style guitars and puts it in the range of a Micro or Mini bass, not quite a U Bass, but not far off of that.

The neck comes from a Westfield Bass guitar and the neck is solid, straight and the truss rod seems to be in good condition so no worries there. the neck is mounted on a single 1 inch thick length of pine, which runs through the complete length of the body and also serves as the mounting for the bridge. it is rock solid, I used the same length of pine for previous bass builds of a similar size and have had no problems with it. the shorter scale means the tension on the strings is a lot less than on a full or even standard short scale bass so there is a lot less pressure on the joint to the neck and body.

the bridge a standard top loading 4 string bass bridge, the machine heads are the same Westfield bass machine heads that came as standard on the neck and so is the bass string tree that holds the D and G strings. the tin is equipped with a pair of 25mm Piezo disc pickups which I positioned between the bridge and neck position and are underneath where the strings sit. I have wired the pickups directly into a single standard  A500k volume control pot and a standard guitar jack both of which are mounted on the lower right of the tin lid.

as pictured the volume control and jack are on the left hand side, this was a mistake, I am a lefty player and far too used to drilling the holes on that side of the tin lid, my apologies, I can move them to the right hand side on request with no issues, I have spare tin lids for this particular tin thanks to just going through the biscuits every Christmas. alternatively, I can convert this bass to full lefty on request as well, as I can just knock the nut out and restring.

I am not sure what the strings are, the neck came with a set of short scale bass string of unknown gauges and original, but as you can see they are not short enough for this scale. there are a few brands out there that will provide a set of bass strings for this scale, but I warn you now, they will cost a small fortune. I have a small hack that will save you a fair amount of money though, no more than £20 for the strings of a suitable taper for this scale length, but I will not reveal what that hack is here, only to the buyer of this guitar

due to the size and weight of this bass I will be shipping it via Parcelforce 48, which will ensure a fast and safe delivery. I do not normally offer international shipping, but if you talk to me first, should be able to arrange something, but I should say now, it will be expensive due to the size and weight. Also if you are off of the mainland of the UK or in Ireland, there is usually no additional charge for postage.
