Vintage Catholic Viaticum Sick Call Set Last Rites Communion Wooden Box

This is a viaticum shadow box, also commonly known as a Last Rites cabinet or Sick Call set, which is a devotional wall-mounted shrine used in Catholic homes, primarily between the late 19th century and the mid-20th century.

These boxes were designed to store the sacred items a priest would need to administer the Sacraments of the Anointing of the Sick and Viaticum (the final Holy Communion) to someone near death.

Also there are two small hand carved statues of the head of the Virgin Mary and the head of Jesus as well as a metal bell showing Jesus being crucified.

Condition: one hinge on the drop box is missing and there is duct tape around the back portion.

Design: Often crafted from oak, these shadow boxes typically feature a glass front. The upper portion often contains a sculpture or depiction of the Pietà (Mary holding the body of Jesus).

Compartment: A lower drop-down door or lockable compartment frequently displays an image of The Last Supper.
