Condition: 12 volume set of The Jewish Encyclopedia, published in 1916. In immaculate condition, bound well and tight but flexible enough to navigate with very clean pages. These large volumes are rebound in very strong and sturdy covers and the text block has been strengthened in a professional way. Because invariably the original leather covers on these sets fall apart and the original binding is not strong enough to hold the pages together. It is strong to the point of being appropriate for repetative use in a home or public library. I went through the entire set to check its condition and/or anomalies. All maps, fold-outs, frontispieces, diagrams, special portraits and even their waxes are all present and complete. Note: Volume III features the complete Catalan map drawn by Cresques which is usually missing or terribly ripped in any other set I've been fortunate enough to see. The amount of original wood-cuts, diagrams, portraits, and photographs in perfect condition and including their original waxes, from what I can see, all of them, which is quite rare. The entire set is free from any underlining, highlighting, writing, defacement or the like. Except that each volume has a small name on blank page and one volume with inscription. One more item of note is that volume nine's map of Manhattan is as pictured with a couple rips to crease areas as shown in picture, and volume 7's panoramic view of ancient Jerusalem has some rips to folds. The rare fold-out of the Haggadah pictorial sequence are present and in excellent condition as shown.
I do not ship this set in one box only. I carefully divide the volumes in piles of 4 each and ship them in 3 separate boxes, 4 volumes per box, cushioned and wrapped carefully with significant protection between the box wall and the actual volumes to protect their excellent condition.
The volumes measure 10.5 x 7.5 approx. 2 1/2 - 3 inches each, they are real tomes, chock full of information.
