Up for sale is a Burroughs B5971 segmented Nixie tube, in used but tested condition. The B5971 is a rare alphanumeric Nixie, which can display both capital letters and numbers on its 13 segment starbust array. Unlike a standard alphanumeric segmented display, the top, bottom, and middle segments of the B5971 are joined together in order to get the connection density low enough to be satisfied by a standard 14 pin Burroughs oval nixie socket. This limits the display's ability to generate certain lowercase letters, though capital characters for every letter are still possible. This tube is used and the black ceramic behind the segments is no longer in pristine condition, but I have tested each of these tubes and verified that they are all in good working order. The B5971 is a very difficult tube to find, even in a used condition. If you are in the market to build a truly unusual clock or text message display, this might be the tube for you! |
