상품 설명
For sale is a rare set of three AVi ADM 9.1 T active “Slave” loudspeakers, finished in real cherry veneer, built by AVi as a special factory commission.
These were specified directly with Martin Ginrod at AVi and are genuine factory-built units — not modified retail speakers and not DIY conversions.
9.1 T was the last model enhancement before releasing the ADM10’s.
🔹 Improved internal electronics
• The amplifier boards were redesigned for better stability and performance
• The DAC and preamp stages were updated too, to yield smoother sound and lower distortion
These tweaks were intended to refine what was already a technically strong active design.
🔹 “Tweaked” sound character
Owners report that the Type T units feel:
• A bit more controlled and refined
• Slightly tighter in integration between drivers
• Improved overall balance and neutrality
This fits the name — not a complete redesign, but a noticeable refinement of the original ADM9.1 electronics.
⸻
What “Slave” means (important clarification)
These speakers are designated “Slave” units only because they do not contain the Master speaker’s input switching, DAC, or pre-amplification / volume control stage.
(What would usually be the Left/ Master speaker is identified by the black infrared receiver panel/ circle, however each speaker has the rear panel of the right hand ‘Slave’ speaker - purely crossovers and dual amplification).
They are fully active loudspeakers and are designed to be fed a line-level signal (RCA) from an external pre-amp, AV processor, or Master speaker, exactly as intended by AVi.
Each speaker connects directly to 230V UK mains. There are a pair of the original long IEC power leads included with the three speakers if needed.
⸻
Amplification & design
Each speaker contains bi-amplification as per the standard ADM 9.1 T design, with:
• A high-power amplifier driving the bass unit (approx. 250W)
• A dedicated amplifier channel driving the tweeter
• Fully active crossover (no passive components between amplifiers and drivers)
This is the same core active architecture used in the standard ADM 9.1 T, optimised for control, headroom, and low distortion.
⸻
Intended and actual use
• Originally commissioned for a high-end ADM-based home cinema system, where identical voicing was required for centre and surround channels.
• In my ownership, two were used as a stereo pair, fed directly from a pre-amp via RCA.
• The third identical speaker was kept as a fully matched spare, which is increasingly valuable with active designs.
Having three identical active ADM 9.1 T’s makes this set ideal for:
• A perfectly timbre-matched LCR (Left / Centre / Right) setup
• Stereo use with a matched spare
• Expansion into a multichannel ADM-based system
⸻
Condition & reason for sale
• All speakers are in very good condition for age. One fine scratch that follows the wood grain on one of the two ‘right hand’ speakers - other than shining a light directly above it, it’s not visible (please see photos).
• Selling only because I later moved to walnut-veneered AVi speakers, which better suited a change in room décor (see picture - Walnut speaker on stand).
• There are no performance or reliability issues. They really do sound first class with literally any style of music.
⸻
Summary
• AVi ADM 9.1 T (later build enhancements) active “Slave” loudspeakers (set of three)
• Factory built by AVi (special order)
• Bi-amplified active design
• Approx. 250W bass amplification + dedicated tweeter amplifier
• Fully active crossover
• 230V UK mains powered
• Line-level RCA input
• Cherry veneer
• Extremely rare as a matched set of three
Collection preferred due to size and weight.
