Sony's first commercial CD player launched in Japan on October 1, 1982 at a list price of 168,000 yen (approx US $730).

A technological breakthrough since it meant going from analog to digital for recorded audio media playback.

This unit is a real collector piece for any audio enthusiast out there. Having an operational one with a functioning remote makes it a real treasure.

This unit powers up and the control buttons work, and the remote functions properly.

Disc loading tray needs manual assistance to open, but closes by itself fine.

Unit is in excellent overall condition, but there is a small rub mark on the rear transformer, which has been touched up.

When I got this unit, it had a UK type power plug since the required operational voltage is 220 VAC. So I wired on a new US 220 VAC plug and bought a new small 110 VAC to 220 VAC step up transformer to use with it. This unit does not have a voltage selector switch on the back as some units do.

This is truly a museum piece of audio history breakthroughs.
