상품 설명
What I have here, I actually got a LOT Of these, so over time you will see MORE listings on these until I get them all sold out.
This one is my Samsung 950 Pro, in 512-GB, the largest they came in from that day, if you are looking at this odds are you know what this is and what you can do with it.
This one has NO heatsink and it's 90% tested, so it is not that old time-wise! In the pic you see a white padded bag it is put inside a BROWN thicker cardboard box too, for more strength.
In the days, assume after 2015, these were a RARE type of NVME with a specific controller that was the ONLY one model that had it, and it was known to fit and work in a variety of OLDER type desktop units, which would show up in either Bios or somewhere, it had that odd controller that there never was another one like it when it came out, and a lot of the old duffers that want SPEED in those old units, these did the job much faster than any SSD would, these 950 Pro were what is called a Gen 3 speed with an X4 Lane, but keep in mind if you got an OLDER motherboard it may default down to the Gen 2 speeds if your motherboard is only made for that Gen 2, but some have a gen 3 slot and thus, U could get speeds back then like 2500 mbps read and 1500 mbps write, all dependent on your motherboard, or controller card, whatever it is that you use this in, but I think those speeds are based on a 512-GB type one, not this one, so it might be like 2200 mbps read and 900 to 1200 mbps write, they are just all different depending on what gen you have whether 2 or 3rd gen, and the type of motherboard and controller card, like use an X4 or X8 type controller card, not an X1 if you want more bandwidth and speed.
The Samsung 950 Pro worked on older motherboards (pre-NVMe native support) primarily through a built-in Option ROM that provided legacy BIOS support for booting, combined with the use of PCIe-to-M.2 adapters. It was designed with a controller that allowed it to function via UEFI/BIOS settings even when native NVMe support was absent, often requiring CSM (Compatibility Support Module) to be enabled.
Key factors enabling this compatibility included:
- On-board Legacy BIOS Support: The 950 Pro included a legacy Option ROM (OpRom) that allowed it to be recognized as a boot device by older BIOS systems, a feature later 960 series drives dropped.
- NVMe Controller Design: The 950 Pro's NVMe controller was unique, with some versions based on techniques similar to AHCI, enabling easier integration with older systems.
- PCIe Adapters: For motherboards lacking M.2 slots (e.g., X58, Z77, Z87), users utilized PCIe to M.2 NVMe adapter cards to plug the drive directly into a PCIe slot.
- Software Solutions (Clover/DUET): If the BIOS truly lacked NVMe support, users could use a third-party bootloader like Clover or DUET on a USB drive to bridge the gap. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
Critical Requirements for Older Boards:
- UEFI Mode: While it supported legacy, installation often required UEFI mode to be enabled.
- Windows 10/8.1: Native NVMe drivers were required, which were best supported in Windows 10/8.1.
- BIOS Setting Adjustments: Sometimes, CSM (Compatibility Support Module) needed to be enabled, or legacy OpRoms allowed, to detect the drive during boot.
- Alternative Booting: If the BIOS could not boot directly, installing Windows with the 950 Pro as the only drive, or using a USB boot loader, was common.
I DO know this is a tested, good drive as I was using it in an old ancient HP Workstation Z400, no kidding! I used one of those controller cards in one of their gen 2 X-slots and it showed up in BIOS and thus, was able to set up the boot device to choose that drive, this said it WILL work in OTHERS but I do NOT KNOW the compatibility of what computer U have so keep in mind I make no flat out guarantees this will work for you because I do NOT KNOW what motherboard and so on, that you are using, but again if you know WHAT this is then you know WHAT to do with it!
I ship out each day by my own mailbox with a pre-paid USPS Ground Select or call that first class mail type through the post office, they come by each 6 days a week here my time in Illinois like around early as 9:30 AM to no later than 1 PM, so it gets picked up each day, if you take this item AFTER that time, it'll go the next morning so keep this in mind, you will get it in good time.
