General title page grubby with marginal wear, laid on paper. The remainder of the bible in very good, solid and clean condition in the main. A nice, solid and sound bible, presented in an attractive restored period binding. Text in two columns, Roman font.
With some early female ownership notes to the front end paper: ‘Hannah Shaw Bolingbroke, given her by her father, Richard Peyton, December 1st, 1827. This Bible belonged to Ferdinando Shaw. Her Grandmother Peyton’s Grandfather.’
Hannah Shaw Bolingbroke [1800-1878]. Daughter of Richard Peyton [1753-1833]. She was married to prominent businessman and philanthropist Horatio Bolingbroke [1798-1879].
