Sonor SQ2 4.25x14

The Heavy Maple shell first appeared in Sonor's Signature Series just before it was discontinued in 1991. It was introduced as part of a Special Edition (SE) snare, featuring 12-ply maple construction. This design later became a defining characteristic of Sonor’s drums, continuing through the Sonor Designer Series in 1994, where Heavy Maple shells were officially added to the catalog as a standard offering. The Heavy Maple shell also became a staple in the Designer Series, maintaining its reputation for offering a balanced and versatile tone with rich warmth and projection.

The 4.25-inch depth of this snare, while not part of the official catalog during the Designer Series, was an unusual specification that gradually became available through the Delight Series. Over time, it was adopted as the shallowest depth option in the SQ2 series. The 4.25-inch depth provides a quick attack and sharp, focused response, characteristic of a piccolo snare, while avoiding the typically dry, thin sound of very shallow drums. It benefits from the full-bodied sound of the Heavy Maple shell, offering a clear, articulate tone that makes it suitable for a wide variety of musical genres and playing styles.

The RAL finish applied to this snare drum is based on a German color code system, a distinct feature that sets the SQ2 apart from other drums in the market. Unlike RGB, the RAL color system is widely used in Germany for industrial design and reflects Sonor's strong German heritage and commitment to quality. 

In terms of hardware, this snare retains the same design as seen in the Designer Series, but with one key difference: the inclusion of TuneSafe integrated lugs. These lugs, designed to enhance tuning stability, eliminate unwanted detuning during performance, and provide a more consistent pitch.
