Originally intended as “real money”. Many were circulated for this purpose. Minted in proof quality…double struck on polished planchets. Norfed operated from 1998 to 2013 but was eventually shut down by the federal government. This is a pristine example, never circulated, of the attempt to re-introduce real money to the US. COLLECTOR QUALITY, preserved in a plastic airtite capsule.
The LLD halmark identifies some of confiscated silver from the raid. It was held as evidence for the trial of Bernard Von Nothaus. It was at the mint being held as backing for all outstanding warehouse receipts (paper Liberty Dollars) and ELDs (Electronic Liberty Dollars). Judge Voorees ruled that silver to be %100 legal and to be returned to their rightful owners. I was one of them due to holding ELD.
A pair of RCOs from California concocted the ELD shield stamp and offered one to all RCOs of record at the time. 6 stamps were made. Bernard and I each got one. Everyone who tried their stamp had trouble with it, creating errors. My method also results in an occasional error but the success rate is good. This auction is for a good one.
These are quite rare now and I have only a very few left. I am old and in declining health so it is time to distribute them to collectors who appreciate the concept and want to capitalize on their future increase in value.
I operated the “regional currency office” (RCO) in New Hampshire for the Liberty Dollar organization. This piece is as fresh as can be, since I moved it from the bulk packaging directly to an airtite capsule using white cotton gloves.
