Ancient Holy Land Artifact – Iron Age Oil Lamp 1200–586 BC Biblical Vessel
📜 Historical & Religious Significance
This large oil lamp dates to the Iron Age (c.1200–586 BC), the period associated with the early Israelites, the Judges, the united monarchy of David and Solomon, and the later kingdoms of Israel and Judah. Lamps of this size were used to illuminate homes, courtyards, and storage rooms throughout the ancient Holy Land.
Excavations at Jerusalem (City of David), Shiloh, Megiddo, Lachish, Tel Beersheba, and Hazor regularly uncover Iron Age lamps nearly identical in shape and size to this piece. These lamps represent the daily life of ancient Israelite families—the same world described in the books of Samuel, Kings, Chronicles, and the Prophets.
Oil lamps appear frequently in the Old Testament as symbols of life, blessing, guidance, and divine presence. Proverbs 20:27 speaks of “the lamp of the Lord”, and in 1 Kings 15:4, God promises to preserve a “lamp” in Jerusalem—a symbol of the Davidic line. Owning an Iron Age lamp provides a direct connection to the early biblical world.
