Kim Yong-taek, a poet who has captured the essence of Korean lyrical poetry by discovering the beauty of nature and delicately portraying the daily lives of ordinary people, has been beloved for 42 years since his debut with his distinctive and friendly language. While working as a rural elementary school teacher, he wrote the poem series "Seomjin River," leaving a deep impression on readers with the robust imagery of the changing rural community and the assertive flow of the Seomjin River. Acquiring the epithet "Seomjin River Poet," he has consistently published poetry collections, essays, and simultaneous poetry collections, constructing a unique literary world. The foundation of Kim Yong-taek's literature has always been the Seomjin River and his hometown village, a fact the poet never forgets. Remembering the people of 'back then,' when everyone was poor but worked together, played together, he compiled poems about his hometown and its people and newly-written poems penned with his evergreen inspiration, publishing the new poetry collection "If It Wasn't Hungry Now." The collection includes 67 poems and 2 essays, accompanied by 15 photographs taken by the poet himself. He records slightly different aspects of nature daily through walks and photography, capturing not only familiar landscapes but also occasionally sensing unfamiliar perceptions. Viewing these photographs reveals his exceptionally delicate sensitivity and unique perspective.
자연의 아름다움을 발견하고 평범한 사람들의 일상을 섬세하게 담아내며 한국 서정시의 한 축을 담당해온 김용택 시인, 특유의 친근한 언어로 등단 이후 42년 동안 많은 사랑을 받아온 시인이기도 하다. 시골 초등학교 교사로 근무하며 시 「섬진강」 연작을 썼고, 변화하는 농촌공동체와 도도하게 흐르는 섬진강의 강인한 이미지로 독자들에게 깊은 인상을 남겼다. 이후 ‘섬진강 시인’이라는 수식어를 얻은 그는 시집과 산문집, 동시집을 꾸준히 펴내며 독보적인 문학 세계를 구축했다.김용택 문학의 바탕에는 항상 섬진강과 고향 마을이 자리했으며 시인 역시 그 사실을 늘 잊지 않았다. 시인은 모두가 가난했지만 함께 일하고 어울려 놀았던 ‘그때’의 마을 사람들을 기억한다. 이에 고향과 사람들에 대한 시를 묶고, 마르지 않는 영감으로 써 내려간 신작시들을 모아 새로운 시집 『그때가 배고프지 않은 지금이었으면』을 펴냈다.시집에는 67편의 시와 2편의 산문을 실었고, 시인이 직접 찍은 사진 15컷도 함께 수록했다. 그는 매일 산책을 하고 사진을 찍으며 조금씩 다른 자연을 기록했다. 매일 보는 풍경에도 질리지 않고 때때로 낯선 감각을 포착해내는 사진을 보다 보면, 빼어나게 섬세한 감수성을 지닌 고유의 시선을 실감하게 된다.
