Up for sale is a Fisher Model 150 FM MPX bookshelf stereo system in good, working condition. It looks great tucked away in a bookcase or on a side table with a turntable parked right beside it. Fisher always had great looking gear and this little one is pretty nice.
I've seen plenty of Fisher gear in the past but this is the first ive seen that was sold as a "stereo system". I'm guessing it was to compete with KLH and their Model 11, 20, 20 Plus and Model 30 systems that were out of the box ready to go.
It is missing the Fisher 150 badge and (1) brass cap on the tuning knob but otherwise presentable. The wood case is perfect and the faceplate has some minor wear with some light screenprint lettering loss.
The power cord is original and still bears the factory inspection tags from when it left the factory.
Its internals are compact but incredibly well laid out. New electronics are so small that most cabinets are just empty. The older units are fit together like a game of Tetris and this one is very well done. After opening it up, i blew out the dust and looks everything over with no signs of potential trouble under the hood. 60+ years old and still going strong!
It sounds great when connected to a turntable or CD (in the AUX) input but the tuner sounds a bit muddy. I don't have great reception where i live so that's normal for me when testing FM signals.
The single, Fisher Model 5 speaker is also in fantastic condition with a very long RCA connector for the receiver. Since there is only 1 speaker included, it might be best to put that one aside and look for different speakers. You can easily connect speakers of your choice to this receiver by purchasing RCA adapters that take (2) bare wires and converts them to the male RCA connector. The receiver is capable of powering (4) speakers by using the Main/Remote switches on the front panel.
With a bit of searching, you could probably track down the remaining Model 5 speaker, Model 150 badge and the brass caps. The caps are reproduced by Fisher hobbyists for most models so that would be the easily and most visible fix. I think it's the same diameter as other tuning knobs from receivers in that same era. It wouldn't make sense to produce a unique knob for every single function, they just pulled knobs out of a large bin during the production period.
