Antique Vintage Old Wooden 8 Key Irish Flute By Metzler & Co

Here we have a fine example of mid 19th. Century English craftsmanship in the form of an 8 key Cocus flute stamped Metzler of London, and manufactured by Alexander Liddle. This flute is in very good original condition, with one partial crack repair to the lower head, (see photo 4) and repair to the low C block divider, and a historic repair to the Bb block (photo 3) to report. The finial on top of the crown assembly is missing. The flute is stamped "METZLER & Co. LONDON" on each section, and A.L. marks can be found on the underside of the keys (see photos 10-11). This large holed flute features; wide bands, lip plate, tone hole bushings and keys made from Nickel Silver. These, and the domed crown are typically found on his flutes. The flute has been recently overhauled and restored. It is in full playing order, including the pewter foot keys, which benefit from an occasional light oiling. This flute plays in D at A = 440 Hz., with a slide extension of 15 mm. Intonation is very good for a period instrument, with no flat foot, spot on F#, and only the A's and B's and second octave E requiring some slight lipping down. It speaks with a bright, powerful reedy voice, which projects well, making this instrument ideal for playing Traditional Irish Music. It comes complete with original case, no key.
